Yes, Msgr. Sullivan, I received your call to help Catholic Charities in achieving goals oh so boldly stated, heartbreakingly described, and desperately needed. I am ready to consider a donation, but I’ll wait to see what Catholic Church will do in Washington. If they do carry out the threats they made in DC (if legislation passes the law on gay marriages, Catholic Church “will cut its social service programs that help residents with adoption, homelessness and health care “) I would not only refuse, but start a campaign on my own for boycotting your charities. The impact would be insignificant, of course, but the point made would be out there.
Now, It doesn’t matter if I’m pro gay marriage or not. This is about principles. Not only that you’re blackmailing representatives elected by the people using those of us in uttermost need of your services, but also by (possibly) denying them your help, you’re in conflict with your own charitable principles.
Having in mind that charities depend on people and their donations, I believe that the means donated will reach beneficiaries in one way or another in spite of your (although not yet realized) threats.
There’s time.
